When everything around us seems to be disintegrating into wars, natural disasters, and radical intolerance, how can we live in the present with a desire for the future? The active response of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) “Clowns Without Borders” is to bring smiles to children in extreme circumstances, restoring their hope and dignity. In tribute to this activist art, the XI International Clown Meeting dedicates its theme to “Clowns Without Borders,” the NGO founded in 1993 by the Catalan clown and artist Tortell Poltrona, the main figure of the event, which will once again bring joy to Vila do Conde from 9 to 13 October.
